How to play blackjack, also known as 21. Its called 21 because you and the dealer are both dealt 2 cards. Whoever’s card’s total equals closest to 21 without going over, wins.

Face cards are worth 10 and aces are either 11 or 1, whichever helps you the most at that particular time. Now if you like, you can ask for an additional card which is called hitting. You can continue to hit until your total goes over, at which point you would lose the game. If you don’t want to hit anymore, you can “stand”, don’t stand up, its not literal. At this point the dealer will flip over his cards and he can start hitting. No matter what your total is, the dealer is required to hit until he either totals 17 or goes over 21. Its for this reason that having a total of 17 through 21 is the best target score so that you have the greatest chance of winning or at least getting a tie.

Special Rules

Some special circumstances are splits and double downs. If you are given a pair of cards, you are allowed to split them, and the dealer will give you an extra card on top of each the two cards.You will need to place another bet that is equal to your original bet but now you have two chances of winning if the circumstances are in your favor.

There are some combinations such as when you have a total of 10 or 11 when you will want to double down. This is done by putting up another bet, equal to your original bet and dealer will give you 1 and only 1 more card. Since most of the cards in the deck are worth 10, that is the card you are hoping for in this case. That is why you only want to do this when you are 10 points away from a very good hand.

Lets say you were given an 8 and 4 and the dealer turns over a 9. Find the 12 on the left, the 9 on the top, and you’ll find that you should hit on that hand.

Say you were given an Ace and a 4, And Dealer turns over a 5. Trace the A,4 row to the #5 column and you’ll find that you are going to want to double down on this one.

What about double 4s against a 7. You could split it but the facts show that it would be better for you to hit.

Memorize this. It wont take long and it will defiantly pay off. Keep in mind its not a suggestion, this is the tried and proven best way to win. You’re going not want to follow it sometimes but keep at it. Make sure that you have enough to cover a few splits and doubles downs in a row.
